In this edition, we cover a range of topics, from the alarming rise in Americans experiencing long Covid symptoms to the impact of vaccination on the association with cardiovascular diseases. We also delve into studies on autonomic nervous system dysfunction, the cost of long Covid, and the potential effects of long Covid on workers in healthcare settings.
I’d like to say that I totally support an initiative for a repository of long covid research articles! I work for a university library and worked on their repository for several years, it’s very important to have a place that contains all the relevant research, particularly for people like us who are suffering from a new disabling disease and maybe overwhelmed with the research. Most people aren’t trained in research like I am for my job and will have no idea where to start. Having a repository not only preserves this important information, but gives people one place they can go to find the information they so badly need. It’s one way to remove that barrier. I would be more than willing to help if needed! Thank you so much for your continued dedication to this cause!
Re: a repository of all the research, I think that'd be hugely helpful! An Airtable base might be good for this? I'd be willing to volunteer some time helping to compile everything in a csv for upload. Thank you for all you do!
I would also love to see all the research compiled into one area. This would be brilliant not only for me, but also so I can refer to it in order to pass information onto others. A lot of people don't even realise the wealth of research being undertaken at the moment! Thank you for all the information you are collecting here. It is absolutely invaluable to us people that have been looking and desperate for answers in the last few years!
The study about driving and deaths was interesting to see. I had kind of an “oh shit” moment a few years into LC when I realized I was zoning out after about 20 minutes of driving, give or take depending on the day and my symptoms. I immediately stopped driving anywhere far away (30 mins is the max I’ll drive now at one time). I can feel my focus and ability to process information that used to be automatic being diminished and that scares the shit out of me.
Just based on my experience, I would argue that executive brain function can be altered even with a case of "mild" Covid. I find that sometimes it's very easy to lose track of what's supposed to happen in a given day, especially if I don't have a handy to-do list to refer to.
I am describing it as a weakening of my mental grip on my day, much as one's hand grip strength can weaken. I'm not quite sure what the mental equivalent of an exercise ball is at this moment, but I'm on the lookout for that.
Small caveat: I have been significantly depressed in the past (caregiving will do that to a person!), and one of the warnings about contracting LC is previous depression. Take that as you will.

Thank you for gathering and summarizing this wealth of information.

The repository is a splendid idea!
