Hi everyone, Been a slow news week so we had to pull a couple of articles from the backlog. In this week’s edition we will be covering a couple of interesting articles. Efforts like Colorado's data project are crucial for understanding LC’s impacts. Also - hats off to Akiko Iwasaki, recognized in the TIMES 100. Our marquee article featured in Nature finds that patients showed improvements in immune function and quality of life over a 24-month period. Another study highlights the use of biomarkers to differentiate between ME/CFS and long COVID, which could lead to more precise treatments.
Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is an underdiagnised (probably 1 in 200 people) and under researched condition that causes weak connective tissue, injuries, and chronic pain.
The tiny bit of research on Covid in people with EDS has said that we’re very susceptible to Long Covid. And overlapping genes have been found In one preprint.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the chronic pain connection to LC.
Akiko is just as nice a person as she is a brilliant scientist. So happy for her!
I have a hard time distinguishing them(ME/CFS and LC but that may just be my brain fog kicking up!
